Technology and medical research offers tremendous possibilities for people who could use some help. Now scientists are offering an interesting blend of old and new technology. The common shirt meets high tech to offer quadriplegics a new means of controlling environment.
The shirt is comprised of sensors which monitor the movements of the patient, and can be used to control a variety of things including a wheelchair. The shirt can be custom designed for each user, which is a real benefit to quadriplegics who can have different levels of movement in different areas. One user may have better movement in a shoulder, while another may have better movement in the neck and head.
The technology is still in the early stages of development by scientists at Northwestern University.
