MySpace, a popular web community, has announced today that is has come to an agreement with “eight U.S. state attorneys general and has worked out a legal mechanism to hand over information on convicted sex offenders found on its service”.
MySpace was initially resistant to handing over information concerning the accounts of convicted sex offenders, but after receiving public criticism last week from a group of of U.S. law enforcement authorities. Myspace claimed that it had always intended to cooperate with authorities, but wanted to wait until an agreement could be put in place.
Myspace has come under scrutiny recently after some of its young members were victimized through its service by adults posing as minors.
