Mac OS X virus rears its not so ugly head

The ‘Macarena’ virus source code was released into the wild recently. It is a virus that is targeted at certain types of Mac OS X executables.

According to the ISC,

To be honest the virus is no big deal in itself. But it is yet another warning for a lot of parties involved.

This is fortunate for the users of Mac OS X, but in the future, they may not be so lucky. This is a proof of concept that certainly could contain a more malicious payload in future versions. And, as many experts have pointed out, no software, including operating systems, are ever 100% secure from things such as this. This is certainly a good time for Mac OS X users to consider anti-virus software is they do not already have any.

This news comes shortly after the shipment of some Video Ipods containing a Windows virus on them. In the press release by Apple, they decided to take a shot at the vulnerability of Windows to viruses such as this in the first place:

As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses

I wonder if Apple is regretting that statement at this time?
