In a previous post here, I commented on the large number of downloads of Firefox 2.0 within 24 hours of its release. I also wondered about the slightly longer term numbers for Firefox. While I still do not have the exact details I was after, there is news regarding the continued erosion of Internet Explorer’s market share by Firefox.

Techweb is reporting that the general trends regarding the market shares of the two browsers are continuing in Firefox’s favor. Despite the recent release of Internet Explorer 7, its share of the browser space fell by .8% in the month of October, reaching 81.3% overall. During the same time, Firefox continued its growth by .5%, up to 13%.

It will be interesting to see how the numbers end up for November, as this is when Microsoft begins pushing Internet Explorer 7 through as a Windows Update.
