Reuters has an interview with the chief executive officer of the recently launched top-level domain .mobi. The goal of DotMobi is to provide a top-level domain for websites that are aimed squarely at mobile devices such as cellphones. They offer guidelines for website construction that will be compatible across the various mobile providers, thus hoping to provide a richer experience for the mobile internet user.

While technically speaking there is not really a need for domains specifically aimed at mobiles, it is an interesting idea. However, the goal of being the mobile .com seems little ambitious. But, you never know I guess. Maybe this will take off and become the default domain for mobile browsing.
