Today is the day that Dell releases their line-up of Unbuntu Linux loaded computers. The line up includes two desktops and one notebook. The desktop end of things include the Dimension E520n at $599 and the XPS 410n at $899. The Inspiron E1505n notebook will retail for $599. It will be interesting to see the reaction from consumers to these offerings as they vote with their wallet.
Dell has stated that their Ubuntu loaded computers will concentrate at this time on hardware that has “mature” driver support in Linux. However, Dell has also indicated that they will work with hardware manufacturers to improve hardware support for Linux. If things go according to plan, there will be a greater selection of hardware available with official support from hardware manufacturers in the future.
