Owners of Apple MacBooks and MacBook Pros have files a class action lawsuit regarding displays of the laptops. The suit concerns claims that Apple has over stated the capabilities the displays. In particular, Apple claims the displays are capable of displaying “millions of colors” while not living up to the claim. The image presented on the screens is dithered in order for it to achieve the “millions of colors” resulting in what some customers complained of as “shiny” or “grainy” images.
It is also reported that these artifacts in image quality are not present when users boot their laptop into Windows, leading to complaints that it is the Mac operating system that is imposing the limits resulting in the problems.
The suit was filed in San Diego County Court, in California.
