Apple iPhone Cost A Barrier?

Apple iPhone

Questions have been raised concerning the price of the soon to be released Apple iPhone having an impact on sales. Specifically, whether unit can reach the goal of 1% market share of the mobile phone market. The $500 to $600 US price tag is definitely on the upper end of the spectrum.

Apple is certainly betting on the success of the iPod transferring to the iPhone with consumers. However, I have noticed many concerns and complaints over the not-yet-released units such as it being referred to a paper weight. This seems strange to me, as the iPhone comes in at 135g, which is only marginally heavier than the recently announced RAZR 2 from Motorolla at 117g. However, I’ve also seen praise of its integration of the ultra-popular iPod with mobile phone technology. The ability to attach that “it” factor of the iPod can only help. Consumers at this point seem split over the device. Time will tell if the goals of market share can be reached.
